Golfing at a country club

Today I played a round of golf at an exclusive country club in Palo Alto.  The waiting list for membership is 4 years.  Holy Cow... FOUR years.

Anyway, the CFO of the Employment Agency that represents me is a member and we went out for 18 holes.  I basically played to my handicap which is in the 20's.  But I actually had a good time.  The thing that got me the most is just the "normal activity" of a country club.

I arrived, and hit balls on the driving range.  The balls were in huge buckets next to every practice spot.  We then prepared to go out on the course by applying sunscreen which was in large receptacles in the men's room, grabbing two apples, and two bottles of water from an ice chest just sitting out in the open, and supplying ourselves with tees, ball markers, and a repair tool from a box next to the first tee.  All the workers, attendants & employees greeted my sponsor by his first name.  It was really cool.

We played the course, which was in awesome shape, with no one behind us or ahead of us.

I'm trying to think of a point to make here... but I guess the thing is... there are people living a life out there that is fundamentally different from the life that I'm living.  But I'm getting glimpses of it here and there, and I'd like to belong the the club!!
