Vegas, Baby... VEGAS. It's hard to put into words the stuff that goes on in Vegas with any degree of accuracy, hence the reason that I've been home for almost a week and haven't blogged about it. But it's now at the point that I just need to give a short description. Anyone that's been there might understand, anyone who hasn't will at least get a travel outline.
So the basic itinerary went like this:
THURSDAY -- Arrival, meet at the airport. Make fun of a security guard that looks like a cross between Dennis Hopper and Gomer Pyle. Take photos of ourselves taking turns holding the camera. Why does the person holding the camera do that, "pull in your chin" pose? Then went to our hotel Treasure Island.
FRIDAY -- Highlight of the day was the concert we went to featuring 3 great bands. American Hi Fi, Sugar Ray, and Matchbox 20. Notables: American Hi Fi is a fun little semi-punkrock band. They have a radio hit "Flavor of the Weak". Check them out. Sugar Ray Their set was a "mexican bar", with sombreros and chile peppers and stuff around. The middle of the stage was a bar, complete with bartender who blended Margaritas throughout their set for the band members to slam. McGrath kept saying to the audience, "Thanks, man!" and "We really appreciate that, man!" Matchbox 20 They played for nearly 2 hours! They did a great version of the Paul McCartney and Wings song "Jett".
SATURDAY -- The big event of the day was attending the Cirque de Soleil performance of "O". We'd contemplated it over several other trips to Vegas, but decided against it because of the cost. Finally took the plunge (no pun intented) this time and it was TOTALLY WORTH IT!
SUNDAY -- the event of the day was the Sheena Easton show! Yeah! 1980's pop-diva finally does Vegas. She did all her hits. Jawed with the audience a lot, and generally put on a good show. Too bad that theater was barely a third full. But, she still looks good, and can still hit all the notes. For your eyes only, baby!
MONDAY -- hanging out at the pool, shopping, and buffet food. Watched the pirates show outside of Treasure Island, and saw some interesting clothing choices. Then put Esther on a plane at midnight.
TUESDAY -- Wake up. Pack. Leave for the airport.
