Strange Turn of Events. I mentioned in my blog entitled "War Quote" about a young female soldier that was ambushed. Interestingly enough this is the very PFC Jessica Lynch that was rescued by special forces. I find it curious that I have now mentioned a complete stranger twice in my blog... I'm trying to figure out if it has some meaning, or if it is just a weird coincindence of war.
Either way, I'm feeling an overwhelming sense of patriotism thinking that a bunch of special forces went in and rescued one of their own. I also heard on the news this morning that in her de-briefing she said she had fired her weapon until it was empty, before being taken prisoner. I was talking to my brother and he was saying that in the Army, you are a soldier first, and then any other duty you're assigned is secondary. So when push comes to shove, you stop any secondary activity you are partaking in, and engage in your primary activity to preserve your life and the lives of your fellow soldiers. In this case a supply clerk, turned back to her primary activity... that of being a soldier.
One other thought on the subject of PFC Jessica Lynch. I was reading a bio on her and it said that she was awed by the lights of Columbia when she went to enlist, having never seen a "big city". Now a year later she's a combat vetran who has killed the enemy combatants at close range, a former POW, and a symbol of American Resolve (or whatever title you want to put on it).
