Movie Reviews I've seen some movies lately and would like to comment:

Blade II -- Well, I really liked the first one, (right up until the hokey last 10 minutes) so I wanted to see what they could do with the second one. I can sum it up in one word... WEAK! The costume's as usual were great, the fighting was cool, even the premise was semi-interesting... but I just couldn't get past the opening mouth and the tongue thing. It was stupid, it was lame, it was unbelievable, it was just silly. 2.5 out of 5.

Amelie -- Okay, I know everyone saw this like a year ago... sorry. This was a fun, fresh, super entertaining movie. The characters were all just cartoonish enough to be entertaining, but well developed enough to pull you in. The story is funny and charming. The sets are colorful and vibrant. The cinematography is outstanding. This movie is not just a rental, you should own it. I give it 4.5 out of 5.

Run Lola Run -- This movie blew me away! The concept is very interesting. The dialog is pretty good. The characters are very believable. The soundtrack is cool. But the best thing about this movie... Lola actually runs like she means it! I mean, this chick can RUN. Not all prissy and stupid with weird hand movements and hip-sway, like most girls (sorry the Thone). But she doesn't run like a guy either. She runs EXACTLY like you would picture someone in her situation needing to run. That was awesome. Also, check out the music video of the main song on the special features of the DVD. 4.5 out of 5.

Duets -- I love this movie! It's on HBO or STARZ or something this month so I've seen it about 5 times now. It's 3 seperate story lines that are brought together by Kareoke. I know, I know... it's sounds totally GAY. But I somehow conected with the story, AND much to my amazement Gwenyth can sing! I'm not kidding, she sings really really good! She does a version of the Trash Can Lid Song (a.k.a. Bette Davis Eyes) that is just awesome. Anyway, for entertainment value I really liked it. (However, I must throw in that I watched it with a good friend of mine the other day, and they thought is was totally lame). I give it 4 out of 5.

Monster's Ball -- Well, when I watched the Oscars the year that this came out, I kept trying to figure out when they installed a subway system in LA... because with Denzel and Halle winning the Oscars I just kept thinking that they were handing out tokens. This movie did two things for me. (1) It changed my mind about Halle Berry. At least it made it so that I'm not totally rolling my eyes everytime she's on screen. Once you can get past the weird way she cries (remember the Oscar speech) she actually was really really good in this movie. Now, suffice it to say that without a superbly written script, and the help of Billy Bob Thorton, this movie would've flopped... but it DID have a great script... and Billy Bob himself was outstanding... so I concur with the Oscar. Now I must say that this movie is depressing as hell... the theme and content are deep and dark. DO NOT drink and watch this movie at the same time... you may end up offing yourself! 4 out of 5.
