Movie Review Blog. Geez... this is turning into a movie review blog! What's up with that? Well... I really like movies. I always have. I have only seen about 2 or 3 movies that I absolutely hated. The reason being, that I really like stories. So I am willing to give you 2 hours, and 10 bucks to tell me a story. I will give you my undivided attention. And most of the time I will give you leniency, and the benefit of the doubt. All I ask is that you don't waste my time.
So tonight I saw the latest Spielberg movie... Catch Me If You Can. So here's the skinny on the flick. I give it 4 stars out of 5. I walked out of the movie thinking, "Something really big just happened! REALLY big!!" That being... I no longer hate, loathe, and want to maim Leo. I really think/thought he is the most over-rated, piece of hud, whiny, loser actor to be "showcased" by hollywood in a long time. Seriously... any self-respecting movie goer has to admit that he is less than optimal in most movies he's been in. The Man in the Mask? Puh-leeze! Romeo and Juliet... brilliance in it's interpretation, brilliance in it's costumes, and soundtrack, and adaptation... 14 Thumbs down in casting Leo as Romeo!! Let's face it. Leo is a "fresh" young face in hollywood with marginal talent. Enter Steven Speilberg. My admiration for the talents of a director have risen to new heights. I loathed Leo before I saw this movie. I would not pay to see anything with him in it. Including Titanic. However, in this movie Leo is quite good. He is believable, likeable, and well-developed. (hmmmm that wouldn't have anything to do with the director now would it?). Okay, so enough about Leo. Let's review the movie in general...
Spielberg, as usual, reels you in with lighting, costume, and cinematography that is un-paralleled. (NOTE: he is the greatest director of our time, and maybe ALL time!) However, Tom Hanks character is the downfall of this movie. I read a few articles about how his character is the combination of several FBI agents...etc. etc. The truth of the matter, and the bottom line of the movie is... This character was not developed enough for him to be likable or dis-likable he's just there filling a spot. When he gets tricked you don't feel sorry for him, and when he gets his man, you aren't really that happy... if there was one thing wrong with the movie, this was it.
The bottom line is this... Go see this movie! It is entertaining, fun, witty, and generally worth the money! My nitt-picking is trivial. This movie is a good story, and if nothing else, it will allow you to see future movies with Leo Di Whatshisname in them.
